The MacBook Air M2 lives up to its Air moniker. There is nothing wrong with praising Apple’s prior laptops, such as the MacBook Air M1. A new chassis with extreme performance crammed inside an old one didn’t seem like a move forward to me.
This year’s $1,199 MacBook Air is a breath of fresh air, thanks to an even faster M2 processor and a much slimmer and lighter design. This 2.7-pound notebook reminds me of the legendary first Air that Steve Jobs unwrapped from a manila envelope 14 years ago. Is it possible for a bright light to have such a significant effect? Certainly.
In terms of portability, performance, screen quality, and general comfort, the new MacBook Air M2 is hard to match, as you’ll discover in my in-depth review. The battery life, which we measured at over 14 hours, is also excellent. Although it has certain flaws, I believe this is the most excellent laptop you can buy now.

You may be sad to see the MacBook Air lose its distinctive wedge, but the new design is a long cry from the previous iterations.
While Apple’s MacBook Air is known for its thin and light unibody construction, the new 2022 model boasts even smaller and lighter proportions while expanding the screen’s total size to a whopping 13.3-inches.
Engineers at the business have achieved this by reducing the bezels around the screen by up to 30% on the top and bottom and by 20% on the sides. Apple’s earlier MacBook Air models’ thick bezels were becoming obsolete compared to high-end Windows competitors like the Dell XPS 13. The new MacBook Air’s tiny bezels remedy this problem.
Ports
The MacBook Air M2’s connector choices are kept to a minimum by Apple. On the left side are two Thunderbolt 4/USB 4 ports and a MagSafe power adaptor.
As a result, the laptop won’t tumble to the ground if the wire is tugged too hard, making it easier to attach the cable connector magnetically to the system. Thank you, Apple, for bringing this feature back.
Software And Efficiency
As previously announced, the M2 processor in the new MacBook Air comes in two flavours. The entry-level model has an 8-core CPU, an 8-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine. A 10-core GPU upgrade option is available for the M1, and we’ll be using it for our tests here. Both can handle up to 24GB of RAM, and each has a maximum bandwidth of 100GB/s.
According to Apple’s claims, multi-threaded performance is up 18 per cent, with a 35 per cent boost in graphics performance on the 10-core GPU. Offline dictation, real-time video and picture editing, and other computationally challenging operations are all handled by the Neural Engine, which is also reported to be 40% quicker for AI-driven tasks. However, it is impossible to assess its performance on a day-to-day basis.
The Apple MacBookAir M2 , on the other hand, reaches a perfect equilibrium. Even though it’s small and lightweight, it packs enough power to do most everyday tasks without going overboard. It’s the perfect MacBook for most buyers and serves as a friendly reminder of why the Air was so popular when it first came out.
